Wood carving, like stone carving, is another of the greatest artistic expressions of the ancient Mayans. Today, artisans work sustainably with native woods from the jungle in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve in Campeche. As part of their preparation process, the woods undergo a long drying process before being worked and turned into unique pieces.
Stone carving, from miniature to monumental pieces, was one of the greatest artistic expressions of the ancient Mayans. Today, artisans keep this technique alive using stones such as Mayan cream, representative of the Yucatan peninsula, with which they create unique pieces with unmatched finishes.
