Filigree is a goldsmithing technique that has its origins in the Mixtec culture but was developed in Yucatan during the Conquest of Mexico. It was added to the knowledge that the Mayans had in the handling of metals. In filigree, fine silver and gold threads are used to create different organic patterns that are fused to create a single piece.
